Today I spent the entire day in meetings. A bit after lunch, a two question survey showed up with some job satisfaction questions. I was half listening to the meeting and half answering the questions. There was a comments section. I think I may have been a little too honest in my responses. I will be interested to see if it comes back to me or if anything come see of it. What I said was correct, but I didn’t make add any padding to the comments. I love where I work and we do things better than most, but there are still things that could be better.

One time after a meeting where I had opinions , my boss pulled me into is office and told me he considered me a leader of the company, thus I should stand by what he said in the meeting in front of my peers and not undermine him . Basically, I was told follow.

My firm won a “best places to work” award so the CEO sent us another questionaire. One of the questions was “what song reminds you of your company?”, and I’m struggling to answer.
I want to send back this:

No, when people leave wrenches in the airplane, call them out!

After a particularly worthless institute day a few weeks ago , we were given an “anonymous” s urvey about how the day had gone. The survey asked what building you worked at, and what subject you taught. There is only one of each of us at each building. Of course, nobody was willing to say what they wanted to say after being identified. Except me, as the department head, I was going to say it to our district coordinator’s face as well.

We had a company wide survey back in April, results for my group were not good. So we did another smaller survey just in my group to give to management. Results were probably even more brutal. On the plus side, things seem to be changing for the better. Management doesn’t know there is a problem unless you tell them.

My last job was at a company of about 300 people. They did yearly anonymous employee satisfaction surveys, and they were pretty in depth. It took about an hour to complete. At the end of one year’s survey, it asked for additional comments and I said something to the effect of “there’s no point in writing anything here since nobody will ever read it. You only put out these surveys to give people the illusion that you care about our opinions. Nothing ever changes, at least not for the better.”
A month or so later, my department of about 90 people gets pulled into the auditorium to discuss the survey results, and my comment is projected on a screen about 12 feet tall. I did not own up to what I had written. Most of the rest of my survey was pretty negative, and I quit a few months later for a better job anyway.

Yea, we’ll see how long it lasts. HR had a talk with all of management about it, they now have to put together an improvement plan and we are doing another survey next year sounds like. So at least they are being help accountable.

We had one of these that solicited comments. It turns out they projected them during the all hands, unedited. I think everyone figured out who wrote mine. Slightly embarrassing but everyone seemed pretty receptive.
